Episode 2 : Prevention not Management

This session focused on the question, “Is the system letting down women and girls?”

An expert panel discussed possible high-level strategic solutions to violence against women and girls and how we can make a fundamental shift to an approach based on prevention.

The debate was led by former Chief Crown Prosecutor Nazir Afzal and featured Martin Hewitt, chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council; Domestic Abuse Commissioner Nicole Jacobs; Mandu Reid, leader of the Woman’s Equality Party; Paddy Tipping, former chair of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners; and human rights lawyer Lady Helena Kennedy QC

It’s the second of six ground-breaking discussions that explore the scale and impact of male violence within policing and which draw on a range of internal and external specialists.

The aim of each episode is to explore how policing works in practice so we can better understand why it goes wrong – and how the problems can be remedied.
