The Right Care, Right Person (RCRP) initiative began in Humberside, and was subsequently supported by the UK Home Office as meriting introduction across England and Wales. In this latest video in a PolicingTV series on RCRP, Humberside Police’s force control room head, Chief Superintendent Tracy Bradley, talks to PolicingTV’s Bernard Rix about the implementation.

“I’ve been involved in Right Care, Right Person right from its inception around 2019. So when we started off this piece of work, I was a Superintendent in the force control room. And I could see, on a day-to-day basis, the sheer volume of calls coming in to the control room, how difficult it was for my staff to deal with these”.

“On concern for welfare [calls]: 25,000 calls per annum, accounting for 11% of our overall demand, and it was rising exponentially. A 25% increase over a two year period. On the other hand, we had mental health – again, big numbers. 14,000 calls per annum, accounting for 6% of our overall demand. And a 35% increase over a two year period”.

“I started to have a look at these ‘big demand’ categories, to look at how can we deal with this differently”.

“In essence, what is Right Care, Right Person? It’s about making sure that the right agency, with the right skills, ability and training, deal with calls for service around health and social care”.
