Superintendent Angus Moir recently met PolicingTV’s Bernard Rix, to talk about implementation of the Right Care Right Person (RCRP) Programme across Suffolk.

“Right Care Right Person is really an approach to ensuring that members of the public receive the right service from the professional that has the right skills and training to meet their needs. From a policing perspective, it really is ensuring that policing refocuses its attention on what its core principles are”.

“In Suffolk, we’re engaged… with both statutory and voluntary sectors… [such as] the Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust, who are the providers of specialist mental health care, they’re very engaged with us. We have both Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board, who have commissioned services. And we have the slightly unusual situation where Waveney, which is in the north of the county, is actually covered from a health perspective by Norfolk, so it’s Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board… And there are a number of other partners, not just health”.

“From a policing perspective, our Contact and Control Room in Suffolk is really crucial, because most of the calls for service come direct in to the Contact and Control Room. And it’s actually those operators, those members of staff that have the difficult job of answering the phone, managing the other lines of communication, they’re the staff that need to be supported and guided through that change”.

“Over a period of time, we may have stepped over the boundaries of what we can reasonably provide within our skill sets, so we have a programme of training for our Contact and Control Room. A toolkit is being developed, looking across how Humberside Police effectively delivered [this programme]”.
