Surrey Chief Constable Gavin Stephens, head of the NPCC Finance Co-ordination Committee, says this year’s pay freeze was a “bitter blow” for officers, but believes there are still plenty of opportunities to find efficiency gains in UK policing, as he explained to Policing Insight Publisher Bernard Rix during a recent leg of the Policing Friendship Walking Tour.

Gavin Stephens was talking to Policing Insight Publisher Bernard Rix who is undertaking The Policing Friendship Tour across the British Isles where he is hoping to visit all police forces, before then taking the Tour around the world.

The Tour raises awareness and money for policing charities, and those Bernard talks and walks with can nominate a charity of their choice to be supported. As his chosen charity, Gavin has nominated Police Care UK which supports both serving and retired police officers and staff who have suffered physical and psychological harm and Target Ovarian Cancer in memory of his late wife, Sarah who died in 2014.
