“[Part of] My role is gender mainstreaming within the Overseas Territories [police forces] which is working with females in policing – both officers and staff – to improve recruitment, retention, progression, with the ultimate aim of having better outcomes in society”.
“A common theme – and, it would be fair to say, not just in the Overseas Territories – if you look across the world in policing, a common theme is that women are massively under-represented”.
“If the people who are recruiting are male, most of that recruitment process will have been devised around male preferences – and it would the same if it was all females, it’s absolutely not any kind of criticism, it’s about changing the processes so it’s more of a level playing field”.
