The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s Maria Stanley, accompanied by her wonderful dog, Nellie, spent a morning with PolicingTV’s Bernard Rix to record three videos.

Ice cream features heavily in this third video, particularly at the start as Bernard comes to terms with trying to eat an ice cream as he both films and interviews.

Eventually, they talk about Maria’s career to date (both in policing and previously). Plus a little more, for dog lovers, about Nellie!

“There was a period of three years at Northumbria Police, which is the bit where I fell in love with policing. There’s a really good… camaraderie in policing”.

“When I was in the fire service, we quite regularly get phone calls from people who said ‘we’re sorry for bothering you, but our house is on fire so the police said we had to call you, we didn’t really want to bother you because we know you’re busy’!”

“Do you know, I’m super super passionate [about the work I do] – and everybody that works with me will tell you that – probably to the point of annoyance!”

“Do you know what, I’m probably using the mistakes I made along the way to teach people, and show them the right way!… I’ve learned a lot that I’d like to share, I’ve learned a lot from other people. How can I share that, how can I pass that on? “
Hopefully my friends won’t see this!”
