In conversation with PolicingTV Founder and Publisher, Bernard Rix, Detective Sergeant Vinny Grimsey of Suffolk Constabulary’s Serious Crime Disruption team tells us about his team’s work, including on tackling illegal drug supply, on tackling sexual crime, and on tackling the theft of vehicles and agricultural machinery.

“One of our roles is tackling County Lines, Class A Drugs supply… [working with the Metropolitan Police] on Operation Orochi… looking to disrupt and arrest the Line holders… Orochi was set up as a national way of tackling County Lines, so it’s throughout all the forces”.

Det Sgt Grimsey sets out the force’s approach to deterrence, detection and investigation – often working with other agencies as well as forces.  He sets out the way in which the force deals with juveniles who are caught up in drug dealing.

“Generally, 95% [of the time], once we’ve got someone, they are charged and remanded to be put in front of the court”.

Vinny also takes us through the team’s work tackling sexual related crime.

“On one of these investigations, we identified a particular premises in Ipswich, we linked and identified addresses in the Surrey area, the London area and also in the West Midlands area. This led to a day of action, working with the West Mids Police, addresses were attended, arrests were made, searches were conducted, and… two females were located who were being sexually exploited… We’ve rescued two females… and searches identified thousands of pounds of money being laundered”.
