As part of a week’s filming for PolicingTV with Suffolk Constabulary, PC Samantha Hallett and PCSO Jo Adams of the force’s Safer Neighbourhoods team in Hadley spoke to PolicingTV’s Founder and Publisher, Bernard Rix.

“Our jobs vary and are quite challenging from day to day, it’s always an interesting day! We could be [working on] a fraud, could be a theft, it can be very basic things such as neighbourhood disputes where we help with mediation”. The role is also about communication, and deterring crime, as Sam and Jo explain. “Not necessarily about always doing arrests and prosecution, but all about the prevention side of things, stopping things from happening and resolving issues”.

Jo tells us about her work with schools: “We have really good feedback. I think it’s important [for pupils] to know that the police are there to help you as well as to enforce. If you can instil that from a young age, not to be afraid of police, I think that’s a very important message to give”.

Sam tells us about the workload: “We can deal with potentially one to two jobs a day if it’s so complex, to potentially up to twelve maybe… Plus we may have twenty jobs going on at the same time that we’re investigating”.

We’re also told about a puppy temporarily in the care of those at the police station! A potential recruit for the Oscar Kilo Wellbeing and trauma support dog team?!
