A key purpose of the Policing Friendship Tour is to raise awareness and funds for charities supporting wellbeing in policing.
Devon and Cornwall Police Chief Constable Shawn Sawyer has nominated the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary Compassionate Fund, soon to be the South West Compassionate Fund to be supported by the Tour. The fund provides financial and other support to serving or retired police officers of the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary and their dependants. Mr Sawyer said: “It’s there for those who have suffered bereavement and need some help. It can be there as a financial cushion and it can be there as an emotional cushion.”. He added that the charity is set to include police staff in recognition that they are also ‘exposed to those tensions that happen with frontline operational policing and the burdens that that brings’.
