PolicingTV and Policing Insight Founder and Publisher, Bernard Rix, recently visited Durham, England, to meet former Assistant Chief Constable (ACC) Kerrin Wilson QPM MBA.

Kerrin began her policing career in Northumbria Police before moving to Cleveland Police, then North Yorkshire and Durham Constabulary before completing her service in Lincolnshire Police as ACC. She has extensive international experience working in conflict zones including Baghdad, Iraq, plus has also reviewed the police response to terrorism in Sydney, Australia. As a serving ACC, she led in England and Wales on diversity matters, especially in respect of race and gender. She was formerly the national police lead for Professionalizing Investigations (PIP) and for Women of Colour in Policing (WoCiP). At the time of completing her police service, she was the highest ranking woman of colour in British policing, and is widely considered a role model for women of colour both in, and wishing to join, the police.

In this last part of a three part series, Kerrin and Bernard discuss Kerrin’s thoughts on the future of policing, and what can (and should) be done differently in policing, particularly to increase trust and confidence.
