Policing in England and Wales is at a “critical juncture” and if it does not embrace reform it may be “overwhelmed” by the scale and complexity of demands coming down the track.
That’s the conclusion of ‘A New Mode of Protection’, the final report of the most comprehensive review into the police service for 60 years.
The work was carried out by the independent think-tank, the Police Foundation, and led by Sir Michael Barber, an education adviser and former head of the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit from 2001 to 2005.
He says the report offers a “root-and-branch reform agenda” to tackle the challenges of the 21st century and improve the confidence of the public in policing.
Danny spoke to Sir Michael about the findings.
