This highlights package explores various aspects of policing, including organizational behavior, mental health challenges, community engagement, youth interaction, and historical innovations in policing. It highlights the importance of addressing structural issues within policing organizations and the need for effective communication and engagement with vulnerable communities.

In the first half of February we continued to hear more insight from Mark Fenton-O’Creevy, Professor of Organisational Behaviour in his interview with Scarlett Haig..In this second part he suggests how policing organisations might get comfortable with difficult realities and become organisations that do not learn from mistakes. The discussion also delves into the structural issues within policing that contribute to ignorance and hinder effective change.

The panel Experts shared insights on the importance of digital engagement, the challenges posed by misinformation, and initiatives aimed at protecting children from exploitation. The conversation highlighted the need for collaboration and clear objectives in addressing these issues. We hear from Alex on tactics to combat mis and disinformation with the case study of the public disorder of last year.

Lastly in a packed first half of February we were asked an unusual question..”who was the greatest policeman of all time ?” We hear an answer from Tom Andrews, a lecturer in policing who discusses the remarkable contributions of Captain Athelstan Popkess to modern policing. He highlights Popkess’s innovative approaches, including the introduction of police vehicles equipped with communication technology, the invention of the police siren, and the establishment of the first police forensic laboratory in the UK.
