Chris Haward was appointed as Lincolnshire Police’s Chief Constable in December 2020, following a policing career that had taken him from Leicestershire, where his duties included his being Gold Commander for Leicester City Football Club in their Premiership winning season; at INTERPOL to tackle international drug trafficking; in Derbyshire as Assistant Chief Constable; and – immediately prior to his joining Lincolnshire as Chief – to his leading the work of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), which was at the time the largest police collaboration in the United Kingdom.
In addition to his duties as Chief Constable, Chris has lead responsibility for four National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) Portfolios: Race and Inclusion; Religion and Belief; Surveillance; and Technical Surveillance.
In the second part of this three-part Policing Friendship Tour recording for PolicingTV, filmed outside Lincolnshire Police’s Headquarters in Nettleham near Lincoln, Chief Constable Chris Haward tells PolicingTV’s Founder and Publisher, Bernard Rix, about policing in Lincolnshire and some of the excellent work and insights in policing that the Lincolnshire Police’s officers, staff and volunteers have developed and delivered. Amongst other matters, he speaks about “a huge piece of work that my Assistant Chief Constable, Chris Davison, has been leading on, around our cultural development, about how do we promote positive behaviours, positive attitudes. How do we make sure that people feel valued and safe, and able to come to work to be themselves, to feel safe in being themselves, to bring their best self to work but also where they see things going wrong they’re able to challenge it, they’re able to speak up about it”.
Part One focused on Chris’s earlier policing career, whilst Part Three focuses on his National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) responsibilities.
