In an interview recorded at the recent World Police Summit in Dubai, PolicingTV and Policing Insight Founder and Publisher, Bernard Rix, spoke to Craig Jones, INTERPOL’s Director of Cybercrime.
Craig begins the conversation by talking a little about his journey to become Director of Cybercrime at INTERPOL, and then moves on to discussing the breadth of work that INTERPOL undertakes in the cybercrime area, set out in four areas: counter terrorism, organised crime, emerging crime and financial crime.
He also covers romance crime and sextortion, before examining the four ways in which INTERPOL supports policing jurisdictions’ work to tackle cybercrime, namely: an improved understanding of the threat picture; enhancing operational activity; provision of tools and capabilities that assist on sharing data and improving communication; and how INTERPOL can best work as the global interconnector for policing.
Also covered is the key role of the private sector, in providing support to INTERPOL and to the many policing jurisdictions around the world, as well as in better protecting individuals and the wider public from cybercrime.
