Tony Alderman leads the Australian Federal Police (AFP) department that focuses on Strategic Insights, Research, Innovation and Leadership.
In the third of three videos recorded with Tony at the AFP’s Headquarters in Canberra, he talks to PolicingTV Founder and Publisher, Bernard Rix, about the findings of research on the AFP “ThinkUKnow” Program he undertook as part of his Cambridge University Institute of Criminology MSt (Master of Studies) degree. Tony won the Sir Richard Mayne* Award for Academic Excellence for this research.
The ThinkUKnow program is led by the AFP and delivered nationally in partnership with law enforcement and industry to raise awareness and educate the community about preventing online child sexual exploitation. The program addresses areas such as self-produced child exploitation (sexting), privacy and inappropriate/unwanted contact, online grooming, image-based abuse, sexual extortion and importantly encourages help seeking behaviour.
*Sir Richard Mayne KCB was a barrister and the joint first Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, the head of the London Metropolitan Police. With an incumbency of 39 years, he was also the longest-serving Commissioner in the force’s history, as well as the youngest on his appointment.
