PolicingTV’s Bernard Rix speaks to Mike Cook and Jason Hart of EBC Group, who have been working with Avon & Somerset Constabulary in the United Kingdom to convert historical evidence stored on old-style VHS tapes into secure, easily accessible digital files.
There are a range of benefits of this activity, over and above the legal necessity of making sure that historical evidence is available well beyond the 30 year life expectancy of VHS tapes. These benefits include bringing down the time it takes to access this evidence from up to four weeks to access within fifteen minutes.  Avon and Somerset Constabulary put the annual financial savings at over £500,000 per year.
