This presentation on mental health by Ian Rummery, mental health team lead psychiatrist and Police Constable Dwight Rummery of The Royal St Helena Police Service, was at the first African Conference on Law Enforcement and Public Health (LEPH), held at the University of Pretoria in December 2024. The African LEPH Network (https://glepha.com/alephn/) was launched at this conference, and becomes an affiliated member of the Global Law Enforcement and Public Health Association (GLEPHA).
This African Conference on Law Enforcement and Public Health conference is a big start to making Law Enforcement and Public Health to work together and to bring a more Public Health approach towards Law Enforcement. This conference brought together Police Officers, Public Health workers, Researchers, Activists and so much more from all around the world to show each other ways to start this new approach, what approaches they have came up with and ways that some countries have already been working this way.
