In a series of Webinars over the early summer we heard from a wide range of industry experts on the challenges and opportunities that AI can bring the justice & police sectors. In this third excerpt from our first webinar we hear from Dr Dory Reiling, Retired senior judge, Lead Reporter ELI digitalisation,  International Journal for Court Administration on the topic of “Can AI support Judicial quality and efficiency”.

Dr Dory discuses how Artificial intelligence (AI) can support judicial quality and efficiency in courts, but there are challenges that need to be addressed. AI can perform tasks such as data extraction, drafting documents, and analytics. However, there have been instances where AI has caused problems, such as discrimination and biased results. Ethical principles for the use of AI in courts, including non-discrimination and user control, are important. Courts need to control the design and workings of their algorithms, ensure correct and secure data, and adapt their governance and work processes to effectively use AI.
