In 1997, the Government in Sweden began a campaign to cut the number of people killed in car crashes. They called it ‘Vision Zero’ – because the aim was for there to be no road deaths at all by 2020.
The strategy hasn’t achieved its ultimate goal – the target date has been put back to 2050 – but the number of fatalities has come down considerably. Swedish Police have played an important part in its success and were asked to present their findings at the World Police Summit in Dubai.
To discuss Vision Zero, Policing TV’s Chief Presenter, Danny Shaw, spoke to Commissioner Anders Hall, Head of Development at the Swedish Police Authority, who used to work in the Swedish Ministry of Justice.
