Women of Colour in Policing (WOCIP) was founded by Sergeant Sandra Smith in response to the loss of her mother during the COVID-19 pandemic. WOCIP aims to empower women of colour in policing and address issues such as imposter syndrome, barriers to advancement, intersectionality, and fear around sharing one’s sexuality. The organization works collaboratively with other agencies and focuses on attraction, provision, growth, and support for women of colour in the police force. WOCIP also advocates for diversity, equality, and inclusion in the police and strives for proper representation of women of colour in leadership positions.
