The 17th January saw the publication of our third Policing Tech Forum webinar in association with the NPCC on technology in Policing . We discussed the integration of technology in policing, focusing on the MyPolice Portal and how it aimed to enhance public engagement and contact management. The speakers emphasized the importance of understanding community needs, adapting to digital expectations, and collaborating with technology providers to improve policing services. Panelists included Tony Josephs – Programme Director, NPCC’s Digital Public Contact Programme, Anthony Jackson – Head of Digital Futures, Merseyside Police and Martin Taylor – Deputy CEO, Content Guru
 
 
On 19th Feb our Roving reporter Bernard Rix heard from Police Now’s Chief Executive  Kurtis Christoforides,  discussing his background in policing, the foundation and evolution of Police Now, and its role in the UK police recruitment landscape. He emphasized the importance of attracting diverse talent to policing and the organization’s contributions to the police uplift program.

The 21st Feb saw the publication of a second interview with Tom Andrews, a lecturer in policing, who discussed the current challenges facing police recruitment and pay in England and Wales. He highlighted the significant decline in the entry wages of police officers compared to the national minimum wage over the years.

On the 24th Feb we heard from Chief Inspector Dr. Yvonne Taylor discusses her research on the effects of night shifts on sleep quality and the implications for police officers driving home after shifts.

Lastly in Feb we published a video focused on a visit by the UK’s Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, to Staffordshire Police headquarters and details Operation Transom, a collaborative initiative by Staffordshire Police and Stoke-on-Trent City Council aimed at addressing the misuse of off-road bikes and associated antisocial behaviour. Chief Superintendent Elliott Sharrard-Williams and Inspector Chris Moss discuss the operation’s strategies, including community engagement, enforcement measures, and the use of technology such as drones and deployable cameras to track offenders.
