In this exclusive PolicingTV video filmed at the ornate Leith Police Station in Edinburgh, Scotland, we hear from PC Allan MacDonald about his journey from the Special Constabulary in Lothian & Borders Police, to his current role as a regular police officer with Police Scotland.
Allan was a special constable for six years, working mainly in Edinburgh and Midlothian, in response, community and roads policing, as well as with the dogs section. He has now been a full time police officer for approaching six years. He tells us that the flexibility he had as a special constable “still pays off, even now”.
He tells us about his current work in the North East Support Team (“NEST”), and the role – as a former Special himself – he now has in supporting those joining the Police Scotland Special Constabulary.
Lothian & Borders Police was one of the eight regional Scottish police forces brought together in 2013 to form Police Scotland.
