A Decade of Advancing Evidence-Based Policing
Over the past ten years, the American Society of Evidence-Based Policing (ASEBP) has strengthened the connection between research, academia and real-world policing practice. By bringing together scholars, police leaders, analysts, public policy leaders, and practitioners, ASEBP has created a collaborative community committed to understanding what works, what does not, and how research and data-informed evidence can guide better decisions in policing and public safety.
The annual ASEBP Conference has become a cornerstone of this effort. Each year, the event provides a forum where research findings, operational experience, and policy discussions intersect. Participants share lessons learned from the field, examine emerging studies, and explore practical strategies that support safer communities and more effective policing.
Where Research and Practice Unite to Advance Evidence-Based Policing
Evidence-based policing (EBP) is a foundational principle that policing strategies should be informed by research, data, and evaluation. Yet the true impact of research depends on the ability of practitioners to translate those findings into meaningful action. The ASEBP Conference serves as a bridge between these worlds, fostering dialogue between researchers who generate knowledge and practitioners who apply it in complex operational environments.
Through presentations, panel discussions, and interactive conversations, attendees engage with topics that are shaping the future of policing. Sessions will explore areas such as evidence-informed leadership, crime reduction strategies, precision policing, recruitment and workforce development, and innovations in technology and artificial intelligence.
Participants will also hear about a wide range of innovative evidence-based policing initiatives, including research on improving case clearance rates, managing officer fatigue risk, officer-led EBP projects within policing organizations, effective recruitment strategies, increasing officer identification of stolen vehicles to reduce auto theft, and the use of virtual reality training in policing.
Additional sessions will examine public perceptions of use-of-force tactics, the effects of drone-as-first-responder programs, strategies to enhance road safety through high-visibility patrols, and the role of police supervision in shaping officer behavior. Together, these discussions highlight the practical ways research and evidence are informing policing practice today.
A Community of Collaboration
Beyond the formal sessions, the ASEBP Conference is known for its collaborative atmosphere. Researchers and practitioners come together to exchange ideas, build partnerships, and develop new approaches to addressing the challenges facing policing today. These connections often extend beyond the conference itself, contributing to ongoing research collaborations and operational innovation across agencies and institutions.
As ASEBP marks its tenth anniversary, this year’s conference represents both a celebration of progress, and a renewed commitment to advancing evidence-based policing in the decade ahead. By continuing to strengthen the relationship between research and practice, the evidence-based policing community remains committed to advancing strategies that support effective, accountable, and informed policing. The 10th Annual ASEBP Conference offers an opportunity to reflect on a decade of progress while shaping the future of evidence-based
policing.
