ASEANAPOL’s vision for regional policing and volunteer engagement

In this exclusive interview, Prof Dr Phaik Kin Cheah, a Lance Corporal in the Royal Malaysia Police Volunteer Reserve and academic at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), speak with Police Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huu Ngoc, Director for Plans and Programmes at the ASEAN Chiefs of National Police (ASEANAPOL) Secretariat.

Recorded during Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship year, this conversation offers timely insights into the region’s collective efforts to address cross-border crime, cyber threats, and regional security collaboration. Lt. Col. Ngoc shares his perspective on ASEANAPOL’s current priorities, leadership challenges, and impactful initiatives. The interview also explores the evolving role of volunteer policing in Southeast Asia—especially relevant as the world prepares for the United Nations International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development 2026.
