The role of Sergeants and Inspectors has never been more important, with the increasing complexity of policing, whilst also leading some of the most inexperienced workforce. During this episode former Lincolnshire Police DCC Jason Harwin – KPM discusses the pilot promotion process changes with the Chief Executive of the College of Policing, Chiefs Constable Andy Marsh QPM.

The aim is to select and develop the best leaders who can deliver the best possible service to the public. The current promotion process is seen as too long and complicated, so the plan is to simplify it into a three-step process.

The changes will also make the promotion process more relevant and connected to the needs of policing today. The pilot areas will test these changes over a two-year period before a decision is made on further rollout.
