The American Society of Evidence-Based Policing (ASEBP)
Profile
The American Society of Evidence-Based Policing (ASEBP) brings together police practitioners, researchers, advocates, and policymakers to integrate scientific evidence into policing —focusing on what works and what matters for fair and effective public safety services for all.
We connect police practitioners and researchers to leverage science to answer critical questions about policing and public safety. We help those insights get into the hands of the people who need them most, like police leaders and policymakers. And we foster a community of like-minded professionals who believe a safer, fairer future must be built on a strong foundation of scientific evidence.
ASEBP defines Evidence-Based Policing (EBP) as a structured and scientifically informed approach to modern law enforcement. It emphasizes the use of research, data, and rigorous evaluation to guide policing strategies, improve public safety outcomes, and promote greater accountability within police organizations.
At the core of EBP is a simple concept: police strategies and policies should be grounded in the best available evidence. This requires ongoing efforts to test, evaluate, and refine interventions in the field. Rather than relying on best guesses or long-standing practices, EBP promotes a cycle of continuous learning and improvement.
