In 2022, UK police forces celebrated having over 50,000 women in its workforce following a government recruitment drive (Home Office). This has inevitably enhanced the level of diversity in the policing sector, coupled with a concerted effort across the forces to create a more inclusive workplace culture. However, a distinct lack of women in senior positions and frequent reports of harassment and sexism indicate that more needs to be done to advance gender equality in policing. By coming together to discuss challenges and solutions in the recruitment, retention and progression of female staff, police forces will be better equipped to support their female colleagues.

  • Women make up 34.9% of the overall police workforce (Home Office, 2022)
  • There are now 5 times the number of female chief constables than there were in 2019 (Security Women, 2023)
  • Just 30% of the highest policing rank are held by women (2023, D. Clark)

Join us at The Supporting Women in Policing Conference 2024 to hear the latest on improving female representation and supporting women in the police workforce. High level keynotes will deliver national updates and strategic guidance on overcoming barriers to gender equality, followed by best practice case studies in transforming culture and operational policies. Key topics include tackling sexism, implementing flexible working, and upskilling the female workforce. The day’s learning can be discussed via a dedicated breakout networking session, allowing attendees to meet with other senior colleagues and share solutions.
